5 out of 5 stars Crazy about spring   June 6, 2010

"I just finished reading David's book. David's writing style is delightfully affable. You feel like he is that very nice and incredibly knowledgeable neighbor who you talk with before you do the next new thing in your garden.
While I have been planting bulbs for many years, David reminded me of several basics I had grown lazy about. Sticking to his ideas, and his suggestions, to perk up my spring garden gives fabulous results."

5 out of 5 stars Your friend in the garden   May 3, 2010

Reading David Soper is like having a good friend by your side in the garden. He keeps you entertained, chats comfortably and cracks a few jokes between the chores of digging to the right depth and feeding your plants a proper diet. His suggestions are gentle and good-natured (Plant bulbs abundantly; you want displays, not samples). His descriptions are vivid and accurate (The bulb should feel like a good clove of garlic). And he spins some fascinating history for you to read while waiting for your seedlings to grow. I'd be tempted to while away hours with his prose even if my garden consisted of no more than a window box in a sunless apartment.

5 out of 5 stars A Great New Garden Book   May 2, 2010
Denise A. Klein (Seattle, WA United States)
The book is both highly informative and a joy to read. The author has an unusual, sprightly writing style. His bulb chapter is particularly thorough. While "Garden Magic" covers all the basics, its definitely a "must-have" book for all gardeners. I particularly enjoy having my Kindle read this book aloud while I work in the garden!

Its fun and funny, too.
